About Me

Hi there ! I’m Alayna….

Thank you for taking an interest in my photography.. Here’s a little bit about me. I live at Reynella, but I grew up in the country (mid north), where I spent my time riding my beautiful horse Angel, and chilling out with my mum, dad, brother and sister.

I am a female photographer southern suburbs, based South of Adelaide but I work all over Adelaide photographing Weddings, Events, Christenings, Sports Shoots, Commercial, Industrial and Family Photography – and most other photography.

I have a passion for Photo Retouching including restoration of old photos. I learned photography back when we used chemical photo labs and dark rooms and I still have a couple of enlargers floating about at home.

Having worked in a number of areas including Administration, plus Sales and Customer Service – as well as predominantly working as a self employed Freelance Photographer, my skills are varied. I’m also a musician and like to organise band gigs from time to time. With all I do, I like to pay attention to Ethics and Values in human interactions, in business, or in my personal life. Honesty is important to me and you will find that this is also reflected in my prices And also in the time frame that I take to process your photographs (or video). I set a fair rate, and don’t just over charge just because the “cost of living” has reportedly “gone up”.

Naturally then, photography is a huge passion of mine and often times I have a camera with me. Whether it is out photographing a band on a Friday night or snapping the Onkaparinga Hills whilst on a Sunday afternoon walk. I am always working on private photographic projects, such as exhibitions or digitally manipulated art – photography is my relaxation interest as well main job.

I spent three years working for national company Advanced Life Photography and was honoured to be selected out of many applicants for the position of Head Photographer in South Australia – doing family fundraiser photography at many schools and kindergardens around the State. I have met many SA Families during this time and it has been a positive learning experience. We had training in Sydney with top Photographers Bede Ramus and Jenny Tabor. When that company closed down its fundraiser photography, I purchased their studio lighting kit and continued on with the work as a sole trader.

I took my first photo at age 9 using mum’s 35 mm film camera. I now have thousands of photos and albums from early childhood and all throughout my life. I studied photography at High School starting out in dark room technique and composition and set up my home dark room studio back in the early 1980s. I also studied full time for three years at Croydon TAFE (then O’Halloran Hill TAFE) doing an Advanced Diploma in Visual Communication and Graphic Design (with photography as my main focus).

I like to use Canon Cameras and have owned many SLRs to date. The last few years I have been specialising in studio photography and studio lighting as opposed to Landscapes and Natural Lighting which was my main interest prior to the studio focus.

I photographed my first wedding back in 1989 and from then recognised I have a passion for photographing weddings. What I particularly enjoy about weddings is the atmosphere of LOVE and HAPPINESS. I try my best to help capture and promote the love between the couples and their families. Capturing the essence of people is what I most love about photography. As well as the interesting aspects of TIME and LIGHT.

I am open to liaising with my clients to ensure they are completely satisfied with my photography services. If you have an idea you want to do I am more than happy to listen to all your ideas and work with them so we can get the type of images you are seeking. I have a set style, which you can see in all my work here, and this is the type of work you can expect to receive if you book me for your event. My prices are affordable, starting at just $300, and $450 for a wedding.

I also learned colour photography dark room technique at Carclew Youth Arts Centre, in North Adelaide. I can recommend Photography as a rewarding career path, and I am always happy to share my knowledge others.

It has taken many years to reach a level of confidence with photography, especially with composition, which to me is the most important part (ie the poses).  Being tuned in to the moment and my subjects helps to ensure that I will be in the right place at the right time to catch the perfect moment! If you are looking for a female photographer southern suburbs, or an easy going photographer, or affordable photography I can definitely help you.  Follow me on Facebook or Instagram for more updates. https://facebook.com/alaynadegraafphotographer
